Note that this was purely an issue in the way this dialog displayed the data and did not affect any part of the analysis. 911747 Generic GUI Updates - A number of the routines that are used to select and display finite elements in the GUI have been updated to account for the presence of the recently introduced offset option that can be applied to the finite elements. Attempting to import a model that had in excess of 100 profiles would be terminated and not imported. This limitation has been removed and there is no reasonable limit now to the number of profiles that can be defined in the ISM repository. 992061 Interoperability - The iTwin Services module used to produce the interoperability data (ISM) has been updated to version 2.2. This has modified a number of internal processes and the layout of some configuration settings. 487612 OpenSTAAD - The function Load.GetLoadAndFactorForCombination() has been updated to ensure that when an SRSS combination is being referenced, the last value in the array is that of the overall multiplication factor. 487713 OpenSTAAD - The function Load.GetRepeatLoadByIndex() has been updated to correct the values returned associated with the requested command index. 487749 OpenSTAAD - The function Geomentry.GetSelectedPLates() has been updated to address an issue when using the option to return the array in the order of selection, i.e. nIsSorted=0. Refer to the OpenSTAAD function definition for more details on the format of the parameters and how they should be defined. 883585 OpenSTAAD - The method used by the OpenSTAAD function Property.AssignBetaAngle() has been updated to re-use any exisiting beta angle command that has been defined with the given angle. 885863 OpenSTAAD - The OpenSTAAD function Load.AddElementPressure() has been updated to handle both full surface and partial surface loads. If the values of varX1, varY1, varX2 and varY2 are al zero, then the pressure will be assigned as a full plate load. Additionally a new function Load.AddElementTrapPressureEx() has been added that allows for the more complex trapezoidal loading on plates by defining the pressure at the various node points. Note that this option currently is not provided in the GUI. 910826 OpenSTAAD - The OpenSTAAD function Load.ModifySeismicDefinitionParams() has been updated in order to support the current range of seismic codes. Each code supports a different set of parameters, the OpenSTAAD function documentation indicates all the parameters that each code supports, noting where a parameter may be defined using a keyword, how that should be defined with the function. 910869 OpenSTAAD - The OpenSTAAD function Load.AddSeismicDefinition() has been refactored to address a number of issues that prevented it from being able to generate the necessary commands. 946465 OpenSTAAD - Two OpenSTAAD functions to select physical members in the model, Geometry.SelectMultiplePhysicalMembers() and Geometry.SelectPhysicalMember() have been updated in order to ensure that they update the selection in the model and missing documentation on these functions has been added. 976678 OpenSTAAD - The function Load.GetAssignmentListForLoadType() has been updated along with the documentation to clarify that Gets the list of entities that have been assigned to a load command in the active load case. This command is identified as the Load Type, which has a defined reference number (see below) and an index number starting from 0. That is, if a load command has been defined 10 times in the load case, then index 0 identifies the first instance of the command and index 9 identifies the 10th. This situation has been addressed. 926872 Other Workflows - The management of user defined templates in the Connection Database of the Steel Connection Design Workflow has been updated to ensure that when templates are being added/removed from the base collection, then only user defined templates can be added or removed. Standard templates provided during the installation cannot be removed. Note that previously, if an attempt was made to remove a standard template, this would cause the application to crash. 963037 Other Workflows - The design report provided in the Chinese Steel Design Workflow for channel sections that have been defined in a User Provided Table (UPT) has been updated to correct an issue which the Flange Thickness and Corner Radius values were inverted. Note that this was only an issue in the report, the design itself was not affected by this issue. 997021 Other Workflows - The descriptions Yp, Zp, Up and Vp has been clarified in the Section Wizard reports. That being the measurements from the principal axes to equal area axes origin measured in the Y, Z, U and V axes. 926850 Physical Model Workflow - The processing of the physical model into analytical parts has been enhanced with an addition test to validate the analytical model after meshing. Now, if due to any of the surface definitions and tolerances, any of the analytical plates fails to be generated correctly, a message reporting the failed object using the ids of the surface, analytical element and element id in the STD file. Previously, such situations would result in an analytical STD model which would not reopen in the Physical Workflow. 961031 Physical Model Workflow - The recent introduction of the method to design steel beams in the Physical Model Workflow using the RAM SBeam application has been updated in order that the launch of this application now loads the default settings if modified previously using the values set in the 'Criteria>General...' dialog. 967338 Physical Model Workflow - The method used by the Physical Model Workflow to update the STAAD (*.STD) data has been updated to address an issue which would occur if the Physical Model included a profile defined multiple times but with different material properties. The process would fail to allow the STD file to be modified. This issue has been addressed. 974191 Physical Model Workflow - The method that is used to manage the display of the components in the Structure Wizard have been updated to prevent a rare occurrence that has been reported in which the properties panel was un-docked and when the application re-opened, could not be accessed. To overcome this, the option to un-dock the properties panel has been prevented, although it is still possible to minimise the panel to provide additional space on a small screen. 974483 Physical Model Workflow - An additional validation has been introduced in the spreadsheet tables. The value of a cell can be used to populate any other in the active table by right clicking and selecting the option 'Fill Column' or 'Fill Selection' (when multiple rows have been selected). However, if the identified cell had not been set, this would cause the application to crash. Now, the method has been extended to support the assignment of blank data as a valid data entry to be assigned as is thus supported. 975885 Physical Model Workflow - The new physical model creation routine has been updated to address an issue which would occur if the new model was over-writting an existing analytical model and also specified with a seed file. This was resulting in the base analytical model being created, but the physical model was not. This has been addressed. 988645 Physical Model Workflow - The routine used to generate the analytical model from the physical model has been updated to remove physical member collinearity test. Previously, meshing of the physical objects into analytical parts could introduce midpoint nodes that merge into an existing node within the configuration tolerance and then members fail the collinearity check. 988649 Physical Model Workflow - The file open routine has been updated to allow a model that has defects identified in the STD file to be opened in the Physical Model Workflow. Previously the errors in the STD file would have to be addressed first before the Physical Model Workflow could be opened. Note that if required, there a toll provided in the Physical Model Workflow that allows the entire STD model to be reset when returning to the Analytical Workflow. This removes all data not directly managed by the Physical model. 487806 Post Processing Workflow - The routine used to display base pressures has been updated to allow the use of the enhanced contouring method as provided for other stress diagrams. 488051 Post Processing Workflow - The routine that creates the data for displaying the axial data in the post-processing workflow has been updated when reporting the intermediate forces for a dynamic steady state analysis to use the method used with other forms of dynamic analysis. Previously it was using the static analysis method. 488068 Post Processing Workflow - The method used to display contour maps on plates has been updated to ensure that if a partial view of the model has been created using 'View Selected Items only', and the Plate Stress Contour option 'Contour Based on Visible Entities Only' has been selected, then the contours are re-calculated based on the maximum values for the included plate set. 488125 Post Processing Workflow - The routine that manages the results data in the GUI has been updated to address an issue which would occur if a model was defined with a response spectrum load which included the option to generate individual modal response cases (IMR), then the file modified and this option removed. This issue would result in an error message that the results were incompatible and no results would be accessible in the post processing workflow. However, if the model was closed and reopened the results for the model would be displayed. This management issue has been addressed. 488179 Post Processing Workflow - The Post Processing module has been updated to ensure that the time based displacements on nodes associated with solid objects can now be displayed. 488205 Post Processing Workflow - The routine used to display the torsion diagrams, i.e. MX has been updated and rather than being displayed using an envelope method (similar to the axial forces), it is now displayed as a line with the positive and negative values, i.e. a clockwise or counter-clockwise value being displayed in the member local X-Y plane similar to the major axis moment, MZ. 488262 Post Processing Workflow - The method used to report the values of Max Stress in the Beam Combined Axial and Bending Stresses table, has been slightly modified such that if there is no tensile or compressive stress along the member for a given load case, the entry will be shown with 0.0 as the stress and distance. After selecting the Compute button in the District Metering Area tool, a dialog is generated to select the criteria type used to generate the DMAs. In addition to the existing options (Target Number of Nodes and Target Pipe Length), you can also select Target Number of Customer Meters. The workflow will be the same as other criteria types. Tank overflow support Support for tank overflows have been included in this release. To use this feature, open the tank Properties grid and set the property field "Allow tank overflow?" to True. With this setting, the tank can overflow during the simulation. If "Allow tank overflow?" is set to True and the tank is full, you will see a user notification that the tank is overflowing. In addition, if "Allow tank overflow?" is set to True, the built-in tank altitude valve is not used. This means that there will continue to be flow to the tank if the tank is full. New convergence options The EPANET 2.2 based engine introduces two new calculation options for convergence. - Flow Change Limit - Headloss Error Limit These values are used to make convergence stricter in either terms of flow or headloss. In other words, a limit is set for the largest flow or headloss change in a link, before convergence can be deemed to have occurred. Continue if Unbalanced calculation options With the "Continue if Unbalanced?" calculation option, if the run exceeds the maximum number of trials without reaching convergence, WaterGEMS and WaterCAD will continue to try additional trials up to the value entered for the Extra Iterations feature. To use this feature, set "Continue if Unbalanced?" to True. If this is set to False, no additional time steps will compute beyond the time step that is unbalanced and the analysis will stop. This software is used for the analysis and design of isolated footings, combined footings, strip footings, pile caps and mat foundations. Seismic Load Generation per PIP STC01015 April 2017 When building structures and non-building systems such tanks and vessels are subjected to ground motions caused by earthquakes, they transmit lateral and vertical forces to their foundations. The computation of these forces is known as seismic load generation. In this release of STAAD Foundation Advanced, the specifications of section 4.1.5 of PIP STC01015 April 2017 have been implemented for seismic load generation for Vertical vessels on octagonal and square shaped soil supported foundations. That section recommends that the guidelines of ASCE 7-10 Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures be followed. Accordingly, the procedures described in Chapter 15-Seismic Design Requirements for Nonbuilding Structures of ASCE 7-2010 have been implemented in STAAD Foundation Advanced for calculating the seismic force. To access this feature, the Foundation Support Type in the Geometry page of the input wizard must be Soil Foundation. It will be implemented for pilecap foundations in a version to be released in the future. xSTAAD Foundation Advanced CONNECT Edition Update 7 Patch 1 Close Designing Pilecaps to the Canadian Concrete Code A23.3 2019 edition in SFA's General Mode The 2019 edition of the Canadian concrete code A23.3 is now available for pilecaps in STAAD Foundation Advanced's General mode using the rigid method of analysis. Another popular analysis method known as the finite element method is available in STAAD Foundation Advanced for mat foundations that are supported on piles and/or soil. To use the rigid method, you need to select a type of job known as "Pile cap" in the Job Creation page, as described in Pilecap Design per Canadian A23.3 2019. Defects Rectified - In earlier versions, the details of some of the piles as well as the support reactions in those piles failed to get reported in the calculation reports as well as in the Output table. This has been corrected. - The pedestal reinforcement details were reported incorrectly in some places in the calculation reports and output tabs. This has been corrected. - For pilecaps designed to the ACI codes, some instances were found where the provided number of bars for flexure were reported as 0 in the calculation report. This has been corrected. - Version 9.6 and older has an error that causes STAAD Foundation Advanced to come up with higher size for isolated footings than the minimum required even though there is significant buffer with regards to bearing pressure and FOS in overturning/sliding. This occurs when some of the load cases in the model have negligible amounts of forces and moments (typically FX and MZ) which although very small & insignificant, are not perfectly zero. This has been rectified. - Version 9.6 and older has an error that causes STAAD Foundation Advanced to fail to design an isolated footing if there are uplift-causing column reaction loads on the footing, and the design method is Set Dimension. This was found to happen even when the selfweight of the footing, soil weight and surcharge are large enough to counter the uplift causing force. This has been rectified. - During design for punching shear, while considering the contribution of the unbalanced moment to the maximum corner stress due to punching, the program was taking the larger of the values contributed by the moment terms MX and MZ instead of using their absolute sum. This affected the design of isolated footings, combined footings and pilecaps designed to the ACI codes. This has been corrected. - For horizontal vessels, vertical vessels and tank foundations, for seismic design per ASCE 7-2005, the SS and S1 values were found to be incorrect if the program was instructed to fetch them from a database of zip codes. This has been corrected. - In versions 9.6 and older, while determining a suitable plan dimension for the pilecap, the program did not check whether the pedestal or column are so large as to violate the minimum edge distance criteria or even project beyond the edges of the pilecap. This led to a failure during design even if the pile arrangement was found to be suitable for the loads acting on the cap. This has been rectified so that this condition is now checked and a violation is reported right at the beginning before the concrete design of the cap commences. - In mat foundations, the stability check for overturning was not taking into consideration the pressure loads that are applied directly on the mat. This has been rectified. - An error in the calculation of the shear capacity enhancement factor in pilecaps for a 3-pile arrangement for the Indian code has been corrected. - The facility for copying and pasting data from an Excel sheet into STAAD Foundation Advanced's input tables was not working properly for certain types of input, such as the pile-spring data for mat foundations. This error was also present when assigning the thickness to the mat and regions on the mat. This has been corrected. - In the sliding check for mats, the weight of pedestals (if any are present beneath the columns) was not being considered in determining the overall vertical load in the various load cases. Hence, the resistance to sliding was underestimated. This has been corrected. - For load combinations created within the STAAD Foundation Advanced environment, the pedestal weight was being considered in any given combination case as many times as the number of basic load cases included in that combination. For example, if there are 3 basic cases included in a combination case, the pedestal weight was being considered 3 times. This has been corrected. - As part of this correction, the manner in which the pedestal weight is considered for the analysis has been modified. It is no longer applied as a point load on the mat. Instead, the ratio of its weight to the mat's selfweight is computed, and that value is added to the selfweight factor for the mat. Hence, whenever pedestals are present on the mat, the selfweight factor will represent the mat's own weight plus the selfweight of pedestals plus the weight of soil above the mat. - An error in computing the overturning and restoring moments for load combination cases created within the STAAD Foundation Advanced environment for a mat foundation has been rectified. - For combined footings designed using the Calculate Dimension method, it was found that in certain models, in the event of loads that are large enough that the program would have to iteratively find the required width, the design was aborted before the maximum permissible width was reached. Consequently, the foundation was considered to have failed the design when there is potentially room to find a larger size. This has been rectified. - For mat foundations designed to the Australian code AS3600-2018, the moment capacity of the slab for the provided reinforcement was underestimated by about 20%. This has been corrected. - In version 9.6.1.74, an error in the program made it impossible to create new jobs to the ACI 318-05 and 318-11 codes for foundations in the program's General mode. The same error was also present when attempting to modify the design code to the aforementioned ones for existing jobs. This has been corrected. - For pilecaps in STAAD Foundation Advanced's general mode designed to the Eurocode with the British Annexe, an error was present in the value reported in the calculation sheet for Vmin for oneway shear design in the local XY and YZ planes. This was only a reporting error and did not affect the outcome of the design. This has been corrected. - An error was present in the highest and lowest soil pressure that is reported in the calculation sheet for mat foundations if the mat is supported by a combination of soil and piles. The error was caused by the fact that the soil pressure (force/influence area) was calculated by using the force in the pile spring as the term in the numerator, instead of the force in the soil spring. This has been corrected. - One of the checks performed during the concrete design of the pilecap is the shear due to punching of corner piles through the pilecap. It was found that if the depth requirement due to this check turned out to be larger than the thickness determined from other checks, it was not being reflected in the final thickness reported for the pilecap. This affected various codes such as Australian, Europe, Indian, ACI, etc., and has been corrected. - For pedestals designed to the Australian code AS3600-2018, an error was present in the value reported for Axial Capacity Ratio. This affected pedestals for all the foundation types in the general mode available for that code. This has now been rectified. - For vertical vessels on square footings on soil, the bending moment, oneway shear force and punching shear force used in the design were larger than the values obtained from an analysis for the loads acting on the footing. This has been corrected. - For vertical vessels on square footings on soil, the pedestal weight wasn't being accounted for in some of the calculations. The affected calculations include the soil pressures, and sliding and overturning checks. This has been corrected. - For isolated footings for STAAD Foundation Advanced's General mode, when the column and the pedestal are both circular, there was an error in the value reported for the critical location (distance from the north-west corner of the footing) for design for flexure about the X axis and the Z axis. This was only a reporting error in the distance, and, did not affect the value of the moment used in the design for flexure. This has been corrected. - For mat foundations, some improvements have been made in the calculation of "Area of steel provided" in the Reinforcement Zoning pages of the program. This should now result in a more efficient bar arrangement being selected to satisfy the "Area of steel required", as well as rectify errors that caused the steel provided to be less than steel required, in past versions. This improvement has been made for all concrete design codes - ACI, Euro, Australian, Indian, etc. Minor Enhancements - It was observed that STAAD Foundation Advanced would hang or crash or produce erroneous results when the Import STAAD.Pro method is used to bring in data from a STAAD.Pro model and a mat foundation is created and analysed, with these operations all being performed in the same session, meaning, without closing the file during any intermediate stage. This has been corrected. - For mat foundations, an extra set of values will now be reported in the sliding check table, namely, the resultant lateral force. - While computing the loads on the finite element model of the mat foundation, the lateral loads (FX and FZ reactions) at the base of the column are considered to produce moments at the bottom of the mat (since they act at a height above the bottom), and those moments are applied on the FE mesh of the mat for analysis.
