FleshEatingZipper
Delay For Blizzard’s ‘Titan’ Means ‘World Of Warcraft’ Needs To Hold Up A Bit Longer Word is spreading across the internet that Blizzard's long-gestating MMO followup, codenamed 'Titan', is on the skids and they're rebooting the whole thing. The staff has been slas... Read the full story here
Llaf
Known about Titan pretty much since I started playing WoW back in vanilla...through all 8 years I spent on WoW, never once saw even a shred of info on Titan. Now they are completely restarting? My guess is, whatever gets developed now won't be anywhere close to what was originally envisioned. They literally spent years developing it, and now they totally start over, and are pushing to release in the next few years for sure in order to transition from the inevitable death of WoW. This has to be Activision's fault, ever since Activision bought out Blizzard all their huge titles have gone way WAY downhill, I mean...pandas? Come on now. I'm sure they've already got the lore for Titan cemented in place, so at least starting over doesn't mean coming up with new lore, but designing an MMO to replace WoW in only a few years...I don't think it will measure up, there have been very well designed MMO's that were labelled "WoW killers" in the past, SWTOR, Rift, LOTRO, etc, NONE of them came even close. Sure, they had tons of players when they launched, because people wanted to give them a chance, wanted to believe they could find a better game than WoW, but they all went right back to ol' Warcraft sooner or later. With the total revamp of Titan, I'm honestly not sure if it will be any different. The only way it could be, is if they actually physically killed WoW by turning off all the servers, and even then, there's no guarantee those players will flock to Titan and stay there. EDIT: Also, I really hope that when Titan is finally released, they also release pics and videos of the original design. I REALLY want to know what they were working on for the past 8 years. N
My guess is that they made something that wasn't very fun. If you can't get the germ of an idea proper, then spending $100 million to build it out will be a complete disaster. That said, I imagine they're going to carry over many of the ideas, but the game itself is gone.
skho01
They were probably busy looking at their metrics on how to maximize profit by slowly dumbing down their games, creating more ways for you to pony money beyond the initial purchase, DRM restrictions, and other neat things like infantilizing the story/characters of ALL their franchises (from the lovely dovely crap from SC2 SOL and HOS to the complete non-sense that is D3). Whomever is taking the helm over at Blizzard is running their awesome IPs into the ground. At this point, its more of a money grab more than anything. N
I've seen companies run IPs into the ground, but what Blizzard's doing is just eliciting sour grapes. They're doing just fine. That and I can't stand Heart of the Swarm.
